This is how you can keep your New Year's resolutions this year!

Here's how to keep your New Year's resolutions this year – our tips!

We see it every year: people who want to completely change course in January and make a fresh start to the new year. Most New Year's resolutions are kept well for the first two or three weeks, but after that, things often go downhill quickly and they're thrown overboard. Sound familiar? Luckily, it doesn't have to be that way. Read our tips and kick-start your new year!

  1. #1 - Set realistic goals

It's better to set small, easily achievable goals than to disappoint yourself in the first month. Every goal achieved will feel like a victory and will motivate you to keep going, but you often lose motivation eventually if the goal is still miles away.

  1. #2 - Step by step

Following on from tip #1 – take small steps. It's much more fun to achieve small goals over and over again than to work towards one big goal at the end of the year. It's great that you want to lose those 100 kilos when you're just starting out, but try starting with half that amount ;)

  1. #3 - Set clear goals on paper

Set clear goals and put them on paper! Even better, write down exactly what you're going to do to achieve each goal. Don't forget to review this periodically to remind yourself of your goals.

  1. #4 - Small adjustments in your daily life provide lasting results

Making drastic changes to your life all at once is incredibly ambitious—and fantastic if you succeed, mind you—but in most cases, this approach is doomed to failure. It's better to make small adjustments more often, as it's proven that you're more likely to maintain them for the rest of your life.

For example, take your bike to the shopping centre more often or choose healthy alternatives for your daily snacks: an apple instead of a cheese sandwich or a light gin and tonic instead of craft beer at the Friday afternoon drinks can work wonders and is just as tasty.

  1. #5 - Finally, start exercising at home

Many people enthusiastically sign up for a gym membership at the start of the new year, only to find themselves a sponsor rather than an athlete after a few months. Such a shame! You're not the only one who finds the road to the gym so long. That's why working out at home is gaining popularity. A weight bench , a barbell set , and some equipment for bodyweight workouts are all you need to get started!
