With this Roman Chair (45-degree incline), you can train your back muscles, and specifically your lower back muscles, through hyperextensions. This exercise, often overlooked by many people (after all, the lower back muscles aren't "beach muscles"), primarily trains the erector spinae muscle group, which allows you to straighten your back. The other core muscles also participate in this exercise: you also train your abdominal muscles and the muscles in your mid-back.
Hyperextensions are a perfect exercise to do at the beginning of your workout, for example, as they're a safe way to warm up your core. Once you're able to do 15 repetitions, you can make the exercise more challenging by holding a weight while performing it.
Those who are passionate about strength training and familiar with the Big Three strength exercises ( bench press, squats, and deadlifts ) know better than anyone that the risk of injury, particularly in the lower back, lurks with each of these three exercises. Therefore, it's wise to train this muscle group and the rest of your core muscles (the foundation from which your strength comes ) properly. Increasing core strength allows you to perform better in every other exercise.
Aside from the athletic benefits, strengthening your lower back is excellent for your posture and an investment in your long-term health!
