Five times more confident in the gym
Share
Did you know that many people struggle with insecurity at the gym? What's so natural for some is a real challenge for others. It's a shame, because the gym should be an accessible place for everyone. So here are five tips to help you feel more confident at your next gym visit!
1. Don't go alone or visit the gym outside peak hours
The obvious one: find a workout buddy. If you're really too scared to go to the gym alone, find someone who's willing to go with you. This will not only make you more confident in the gym, but it's also more fun. A win-win situation! If you can't find anyone willing to go with you, you can also visit the gym outside peak hours. Gyms are often busiest after work and before. So if work allows, try scheduling a workout for yourself in the middle of the day.
2. Choose the right gym
Not all gyms are the same. Where you feel comfortable can really make a difference. So try out different gyms. It's best to actually go and work out, but sometimes you can get a good sense of whether a place is right for you by booking a tour.
3. Motivational music
The right songs can make you feel much more confident. Put on the music that makes you feel good, and you'll see how much it helps. If you're not sure what music to put on, there are plenty of playlists on Spotify you can listen to: for example, "Power Hour," "Training Power," "Beast Mode," and of course, you can even put the well-known "Eye of the Tiger" on repeat!
4. Outfit on point
You might not be much into your clothes, but it really helps to wear a workout outfit that makes you feel comfortable and confident. So try investing in this to boost your confidence at the gym. For some, this means tight leggings and a matching top, while others feel more comfortable in comfortable, loose-fitting sweatpants. What others think doesn't matter; it's about what makes you feel 100 percent comfortable.
5. Exercise at home!
There's always the option of simply continuing to work out at home. Everyone is different, and if the gym isn't a place where you feel comfortable, there's no need to change that for anyone. You can also stay fit and healthy with some exercise equipment at home. Think of a kettlebell, a yoga mat, and a few dumbbells—they'll go a long way!
