Exercising with a hangover, what a treat

They sometimes say: "Let's sweat out that hangover!" But is that really such a good idea? And what can you expect from yourself if you exercise hungover? You can read more about it in this article.

Sweat party

The Amsterdam Dance Event is over, and plenty of people partied hard last weekend. The harsh reality is that you're now dragging yourself back to work and the gym to get back into the swing of things. Perhaps even with a slight hangover. You sometimes hear that you can sweat out a hangover, but unfortunately, that's not entirely true. You might feel better after a short workout, but a standard glass of alcohol takes about an hour and a half to be broken down by your body. Don't even start counting, or you'll end up with a worse headache.

Still do something

Even though you can't sweat out a hangover, it's good to get some exercise. Of course, you shouldn't overdo it—be kind to your body—but a little bit of movement doesn't hurt. Even if it's just a ten-minute walk, exercise releases substances like serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins, which will make you feel better. Or grab a pair of light dumbbells to work those muscles. And don't forget to drink plenty, as you'll need more water anyway to rehydrate after such a weekend of partying.

Stretch it out

No, unfortunately, you can't stretch your hangover away either, but you can certainly feel better after stretching. For example, if you stand and stretch on your legs, you're not only stretching nicely, but it also helps regulate your blood pressure and relieve headaches. With some stretching exercises, you can give yourself a little boost by getting your blood circulation going again and getting a rush of stimulating oxygen. Grab that yoga mat, because this is definitely worth a try! Child's pose, seated twist, and of course: savasana…
