A sports massage before it's too late

What is a sports massage?

A sports massage stimulates blood circulation in your muscles. This circulation in turn ensures that waste products are removed more quickly. This, in turn, promotes the recovery of your muscles and body. Sounds good! But be aware: a sports massage isn't fun. You might even feel a little sore after the treatment. So keep this in mind before scheduling a sports massage. It's best not to schedule your sports massage right before or after strenuous exercise, as this can overload your muscles and you won't reap the benefits listed below.

Still, that's no reason to skip the sports massage. You'll have to get through it, thinking you'll feel better later and be able to train better. If you want to be strong, you have to endure some pain. And of course, you should definitely let us know if the pain becomes too much. Communication is key in any massage. Not only during, but especially before the massage, it's important to point out where the problem areas are, or which muscles you're straining the most while training.

What are the benefits of a sports massage?

As mentioned, a sports massage promotes faster recovery for your body and muscles. It also prevents muscle strain and therefore injuries. Prevention is always better than cure. However, if you're already experiencing symptoms, a sports massage can also help.

And for those who have been severely affected by COVID or another severe flu, a sports massage can also help activate your muscles. This can be beneficial at the beginning of a training program or when resuming training. A sports massage is therefore good for your muscles both before you start, while training towards your goals, and perhaps after you've crossed the line.

If you don't have the time or money to book a sports massage, you can also use a massage roller or foam roller. Although, of course, real hands-on work (by a professional) is best for you.
