Step it up! A comprehensive workout with an aerobic fitness step

An aerobic fitness step is a perfect tool for a good workout! You can do countless exercises with it, both cardio and strength. We're happy to share a few with you!

Step up/step down

This is the easiest exercise to do on the step, but it's a good warm-up! Step onto the step with your right foot, then your left. Then step off with your right foot, followed by your left. Repeat until you're thoroughly warmed up.

Step up hands

This is essentially the same exercise as the one above, but with your hands. Get into a push-up position with the step horizontally in front of you. Then place your right hand on the step, followed by your left. Then place your right hand back on the floor, again followed by your left. Keep your back straight throughout this exercise and repeat as many times as you like.

Dumbbell Calf Raises

Grab two doubles of your choice of weight and hold one in each hand. Stand on the step with your toes, letting your heels extend lower than your toes. Then push your body up by applying force through your toes and slowly return to the starting position. This will work your calves. Repeat the exercise as many times as desired.

Lunges

Place your right foot on the step and your left foot on the floor behind you. Bend your right knee, keeping it directly over your ankle. Then push your body back up and repeat. Once you're done, switch legs and repeat the exercise. To make it a bit more challenging, you can also hold a dumbbell in each hand.

Bulgarian split squat

You can also perform lunges by placing your right leg behind you on the step and your left leg on the floor in front of you. Then bend your front knee, keeping your knee above your ankle. You can do this with your body weight. If you'd like to make the exercise a bit more challenging, you can also place a barbell (with weights) behind your neck.

Squats

Jump onto the step with both feet simultaneously and immediately perform a squat. Keep your knees above your ankles as you bend them and your back straight. Then return to your normal standing position and jump off the step. Repeat the exercise as many times as you like. This will train your leg muscles and your fitness at the same time.

Glute bridge

Lie on your back on the floor and place your feet on the step in front of you. Then, push your glutes up while keeping your shoulder blades on the floor, creating a bridge. Slowly lower your glutes and repeat. You probably guessed it: this will work your glutes.

Step jump over

Place your hands on both sides of the step and jump sideways, alternating legs, over the step. Keep your arms straight throughout. This great cardio exercise is sure to improve your fitness.

Step up switch

Place one foot on the step and keep your back straight. Alternate jumps with a good amount of speed, moving your arms as you do so. This is another great cardio exercise!
